Revealing the 2,800 billion bridge on Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway is about to reach the finish line

TPO – Binh Khanh Bridge – spanning the Soai Rap River connecting Hiep Phuoc Commune (formerly Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City) with Binh Khanh Commune (formerly Can Gio District, Ho Chi Minh City) of the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway with a total length of more than 2.76 km was started in August 2015, with an initial total investment of more than 2,800 billion VND, and will be completed by the end of August 2025.

Binh Khanh Bridge belongs to package J1 (construction of Binh Khanh Bridge and access roads) on the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway. Binh Khanh Bridge crosses the Soai Rap River, connecting the old Nha Be district with the old Can Gio district of Ho Chi Minh City. The bridge has a total length of more than 2.76 km, of which the main bridge is 765 m long.
3.jpgAfter a period of suspension, the bridge was restarted at the end of 2023. Binh Khanh Bridge is designed with two-plane cable-stayed bridges with H-shaped towers up to 135 m high, with a clearance of up to 55 m to ensure the safe passage of super-long and super-heavy ships on the Soai Rap waterway.

The 57.8 km Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway passes through Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai Province. In early 2025, the Vietnam Expressway Corporation – VEC (investor) opened to traffic and put into operation nearly 30 km (two sections), including the western section from the Ho Chi Minh City – Trung Luong Expressway intersection to Nguyen Van Tao intersection and the section from Phuoc An intersection to National Highway 51 intersection.

Package J1 (construction of Binh Khanh bridge and approach road) is funded by JICA with a construction contract value of over 2,800 billion VND. The supervision consultant is KEI - NE - OCG - TEDI, the construction contractor is the consortium Shimizu Corporation - Vinaconex Construction and Engineering Investment Joint Stock Company.

The bridge is 21.75m wide, with 4 lanes for motor vehicles and 2 emergency lanes, fully meeting new generation highway standards.

The project started in August 2015, however, after reaching about 70% of volume, the project had to be suspended at the end of 2018 due to capital problems. The project was restarted at the end of 2023. Currently, the package has reached nearly 98% of output, and the construction of the main bridge is on schedule.

As for the approach bridge, the remaining construction work, including railings and median strips, is currently being accelerated. According to plan, Binh Khanh Bridge will be completed by the end of August 2025.

Currently, on the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway, there is also Phuoc Khanh bridge across Long Tau river connecting the old Can Gio district (HCMC) with the old Nhon Trach district (Dong Nai province) which was also restarted in May 2025.

According to plan, Phuoc Khanh bridge will be completed and put into operation in September 2026.

The upcoming completion of Binh Khanh Bridge (package J1) and Phuoc Khanh Bridge (package J3, expected to be completed in 2026) will complete the entire Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway.

From here, the key inter-regional traffic axis in the South will be connected. Binh Khanh Bridge is the largest bridge on the entire route, with a total investment of more than 2,800 billion VND.
